IMPORTANT: YOU HAVE SIX (6) MONTHS FROM THE DATE OF YOUR INSTRUCTOR ESSENTIALS CLASSROOM COURSE TO COMPLETE THIS STEP

The final step to complete your American Heart Association Instructor training is to be monitored by one of our Training Center Faculty while instructing your first course. This monitoring is not only a quality assurance measure, but is designed to help Instructor Candidates be successful. We understand the nervousness, stress, and self-doubt that many new Instructors experience. Yes, our Training Center Faculty are there to monitor and evaluate your performance. However, we also want to help ease your stress and instill confidence. Our Training Center Faculty are experts in their fields and bring a wealth of knowledge, experience, and lessons learned with them. They too started just like you, as a provider transitioning into an instructor. They get it.

We strongly, strongly encourage Instructor Candidates to be well-prepared for their class by reviewing all information available to them, including provider and instructor manuals, course videos, and skills checklists. Arrive early to class, bring your provider and instructor materials, prepare your equipment and classroom environment, greet participants as they arrive, and exhale!

Some of the criteria we will evaluate are:

  • Content Delivery
  • Adherence to AHA Guidelines and Policies
  • Testing and Remediation
  • Feedback
  • Time Management
  • Professionalism
  • +More

Following your course monitoring, the Training Center Faculty will discuss your evaluation and provide feedback. Should the Training Center Faculty feel you could benefit from an additional course monitoring, they will discuss which areas are in need of improvement, provide resources if necessary, and assist in setting up the additional monitoring.

Once you have successfully completed the course monitoring requirement per American Heart Association guidelines, you will be approved as an American Heart Association Instructor and issued your new Instructor card. Instructor cards are valid for two years from the date of issue.
